My love of Car boot sales

Why I love a carboot?

The carboot is my go to for a bit of extra cash. The poor old British car boot gets a bit of bad press but there are so many good things about it which I thought I would share with you. People say that its too much hard work or you bring a load of crap home with you but I think the little bit of time it takes is massively outweighed by the positives.

Firstly my year to date total for car boots is about £500 which has contributed to my spending money for holiday!!! Brilliant.

1)        You can earn some extra money. I find it fascinating the things that go which you don’t expect to go

2)        Every car boot is different – yes you get your regulars but today I have sold two boxed games which I have taken with me to the last 5 or 6 car boots so it does go to show you there is a buyer out there for everything

3)        I love people watching. There is a lovely social aspect to it. Some people clearly just go for a chat. At some carboots there are regulars and its lovely to see the chatting

4)        Joy – the joy on people’s faces when they find something they have been looking for for ages. Today a little boy was telling us his favourite character was Pikachu and he was so excited that Nicola had a Pikachu mug. He was so over the moon with it that he did a little dance.

5)        Having a clear out is so cleansing – I feel great when I bring a little bit less home with me – having a clear out feels amazing and good for the soul.

6)        Sustainability – I love the fact that all the bits are not going to landfill. And if you buy and sell at a carboot its so circular. I have bought the childrens clothes and toys at a car boot and when they have grown out of them I then sell them again.

The carboot today also has charity bins so if you don’t sell all the clothes you can leave them there and the charity collects them. Brilliant!

7)        Education – it has been great for the children to learn about money and the value of things. They also sometimes really enjoy it if you set challenges for them. Either buying or selling

8)        It gets you out of bed - If you go to an early one you still have the rest of the day to yourself and you can achieve so much more.

BUT there are some things I would avoid – Avoid the ice-cream vans. You may have got a bargain for 50p but you could then spend £5 on an ice-cream.

I know its not for everyone but I actually enjoy it. So I will continue to go as I think I will always need to….. Just waiting for the barbies to finish being played with and they will be on their way.
